šŸ“ How do you write an invitation letter for an Australian visitor visa?

The invitation letter by a family member or friend is to help vouch for you and your genuine intent as a tourist in Australia. The Department of Home Affairs wants to see the invitation letter communicateĀ¹:

  • The friend or family memberā€™s relationship to you
  • The reason you are visiting
  • How long you are staying
  • If you are staying with them or have alternate accommodation
  • If your friend or family member is funding your stay and evidence of their means to support your stay financially.

The letter is to be written in a formal letter format and signed by the person inviting you. In addition, the letter should include information on the person writing the letter. This can include information like:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Full address
  • Phone number
  • Status in Australia as a citizen, permanent resident or visa holder

Plus it should contain information to identify you as the applicant, like your passport number.

Letā€™s take a look at what an invitation letter can look like.

I am currently a postgraduate student at Adelaide University and I will be able to provide support and accommodation to my parents during their stay. I havenā€™t been able to see my parents in over a year so I am sincerely looking forward to showing them my life here in Australia.

This would be their first time here in Australia and we intend to visit Sydney during their stay. With responsibilities to my extended family in India, my parents will only be visiting for 4 weeks and then will be returning to their home.

Please find the following documents to support this invitation letter:

  • A copy of my Permanent resident Visa with my date of birth
  • Our 4 week itinerary
  • My bank statement
  • My parentā€™s bank statement in India
  • My lease agreement where I am staying and where they will be staying as well.

Please let me know if there are any other documents I can provide or questions I can answer for my parentsā€™ tourist visa application.
